BM12 – Lightning Casbah & Jozi
We Build, We Play, We Burn
For “Fertility 2.0” at Burning Man 2012, we did something a little different, and something a little similar. The different was creating a 2,000 sq ft structure for dining and entertainment of 250 campers – using hardware not slots! The similar was making it out of plywood – and burning another CORE effigy…
For the structure, we wanted the usable space of a 50′ dome, at a $2,000 price. We blended the earth mother and sky father to get it, and the result was pretty sweet. We’ll tell you about it sometime but in the meantime take a look at the gallery…
As for another CORE, we reached out to the team coming the furthest: the Jozi team from South Africa. We gave them lots of advice, then designed the burn and fueled it. They wanted to light the top like an Olympic torch, then drop flame down around the bottom to add some sizzle, all while knocking out the central column at the bottom to make it fall straight down. Mission accomplished in all respects! And the SA team rocked CORE. You can see their story on video here or on FB here.
